When buying spectacles the lenses you choose plays a huge part in the final outcome. A common mistake people often make when buying eyeglasses is not spending enough time considering their choices of eyeglass lens materials, designs and coatings.
There are many factors to consider when selecting lenses. Chris and Rachel have many years of experience in helping our clients to get the right lenses for the right job. There are many options when it comes to features, benefits and price. Your optometrist will make a recommendation based on your eye examination, and this is very much like a doctors prescription. There are very good reasons for recommending a particular lens and following the recommendation will generally get the best result.
Lens thickness is determined in part by the size and style of the frame you choose. For thinner lenses, choose smaller, round or oval frames. Also, plastic frames hide edge thickness better.
Choosing the best lens index for you is an important decision. There are the four most important things you need to know:
The greater the index number, the thinner the lens.
The more complex your prescription, the thicker (and heavier) the lens which means higher prescriptions require a higher index to keep the lens thin, light, and free of distortion.
The higher the lens index, the more it will cost. At EyeBuyDirect, we offer six different lens indexes. Most prescriptions are compatible with more than one index, so it depends on how light and comfortable you want your glasses to be. Stronger prescriptions with lower than recommended indexes result in glasses that have that coke-bottle look to them
